Ok, so my computer for work arrived last week. And well.. Its been interesting. It was a tough decision to get a mac mainly because I have used pc all my life and never actually used a mac for anything. I’ve always heard good things about macs and final cut pro and when the opportunity to get one through work came around I couldn’t pass it up. Anyway, I just wanted to post something to say I’m still around working hard on my new computer.
I will be adding to this blog in the future with mac tips for the pc user. Here are a couple to start it off…
- right click properties = right click “get info”
- right click without a two button mouse = ctl click
- ctl c = apple c
- image thumbnails in finder is turned off by default (or was for me), turn it on by going to “view options” on a folder and enable “show icon preview”
- delete = backspace (this one threw me)
- backspace = function delete (or thats how to do it on a macbook does it.
- Program settings are generally under program name -> Preferences
- ctrl alt delete = apple option esc
A few other notes..
Adium is an awesome im client (apart from the squark noise I keep anoying my workplace with… now where is the option to turn it off)
Photo Booth is funny.
You can crash a mac. Its is stable but I wouldn’t say its incredible compared to a pc.
My neck hurts from looking down at a laptop screen. I really should use my 2nd display more often.
I haven’t really missed any major software on a mac. Infact there seems to be plenty of equivalent or better software available on mac.
Bootcamp works fine. Its fairly polished. There are a few bugs like. random restart on bootup. A complete shutdown and then bootup seems to fix this.
Anyway… I will post more later…
